Having played a variety of venues around the Manchester area for the past few years with a several cover and original bands, as well as solo, 2016 saw the release of Chris’ debut solo album, “Trip Inside”.
The album aims to fuse a range of styles from jazz to folk, rock and pop, as a reflection of the experience of these genres of music in Chris’ gigging career.
Chris was recently the Featured Indie Artist on SoundWaves Review, who wrote: “Chris Soames is an indie musician with an album and some singles floating out in the airwaves. His vibe is largely pop-rock, though he leans into alt-rock, blues, electronic, and progressive at various times. His album, called Trip Inside, strikes a cool balance of styles, smashing barriers in the way only indie music manages to do.”
“Trip Inside” scored an admirable 3.5 out of 5 in its first review, by No More Division, and critic Ted Rogen remarked that “[Soames] opens with “Sun In Squares” which is a funky rock song. It’s catchy and a good opener. The mood is upbeat and lively. … [In Whispers In Paris] there is a distinct ’80s vibe that is not too far off from Richard Marx.
Speaking of other decades Soames pulls off an old classic guitar solo on “Trip Inside” as well as the famous talking guitar effect made popular by Peter Frampton. “Fly” is a highlight amongst the batch. The song is hopeful, optimistic and certainly does have a feeling of flying.”
“Trip Inside isn’t exactly an album that will have an easy time finding its way into the underground but it will be appreciated by an audience who has a penchant for pop music.”
The follow up to “Trip Inside”, Chris’ second album “In My Dreams”, a ten track album fusing indie Brit-pop, electronic and hip-hop was released in April 2017 and continues to enjoy good feedback from fans across the globe.
