This is a traditional Manx folk song whose lyrics were written by Eliza Craven Green before the end of the 19th century and set to music by a certain J. Townsend. In 1998, it was covered by the Bee Gees, who were born on the island. The song was originally in 3/4 and I’ve left half a verse out for arrangement purposes; a little artistic license π “Ellan Vannin”, the alternative name for this track, means “Isle of Man” in Manx.
