Starlight

Hi all,

Just finished putting the finishing touches to a Christmas album I’m doing with a folk band I’ve been playing with; more info on that on the way. Since I’d not put a track of my own together in the studio for a while here’s a cover I’ve been wanting to do for ages, a classic from last decade; “Starlight” by the Supermen Lovers. On SoundCloud or below, as ever.

More tracks in the pipeline (one or two in a particularly long pipeline of their own…) at the moment, so watch this space šŸŽ§

Trip Inside reviewed by No More Division

Thanks to the team at No More Division for their review of Trip Inside, published this morning!

Ted Rogen scored the album at 3.5 out of 5, commenting that “[Soames]Ā opens with ā€œSun In Squaresā€ which is a funky rock song. It’s catchy and a good opener. The mood is upbeat and lively. … [In Whispers in Paris]Ā there is a distinct ’80s vibe that is not too far off from Richard Marx.

Speaking of other decades Soames pulls off an old classic guitar solo on ā€œTrip Insideā€ as well as the famous talking guitar effect made popular by Peter Frampton. ā€œFlyā€ is a highlight amongst the batch. The song is hopeful, optimistic and certainly does have a feeling of flying.”

“Trip Inside isn’t exactly an album that will have an easy time finding its way into the underground but it will be appreciated by an audience who has a penchant for pop music.”

Ellan Vannin

This is a traditional Manx folk song whose lyrics were written by Eliza Craven Green before the end of the 19th century and set to music by a certain J. Townsend. In 1998, it was covered by the Bee Gees, who were born on the island. The song was originally in 3/4 and I’ve left half a verse out for arrangement purposes; a little artistic license šŸ™‚ “Ellan Vannin”, the alternative name for this track, means “Isle of Man” in Manx.
